Music Grade 2 September and October

What a shock at first!!!! I don't have the greatest music background- piano lessons, clarinet in middle school, and some middle school choir. I came from a small town only about 400 kids in grades 5-8, but for high school there were 2000 kids and I found out I just was not good in music. Now many years later, i am told that I have to teach 2nd grade music.

What do I do? Well I look up the CA frameworks for Grade 2
Grade 2 Framework music
Oh wow Standard 1.5 Identify visually and aurally individual wind, string, brass, and percussion instruments used in a variety of music.
That is something I can actually do.

I am using the following websites to teach the second graders the different instruments
Enchanted Learning Lots of great coloring pages and songs

San Francisco Symphony Kids Instruments of the Orchestra The kids can see pictures and listen to instruments sounds

Dallas Symphony Orchestra kids

I also have been using silver burdett gin music videos and videos of the different instruments and I just bought a listening game called Orchestra Bingo.
I even found some great music lesson plans worksheets at
Instructor Web and of course media books from the music section Dewey 784-788.

I also was able to cover some other standards
Apply Vocal and Instrumental Skills
2.1 Sing with accuracy in a developmentally appropriate range.
2.2 Sing age-appropriate songs from memory.
2.3 Play rhythmic ostinatos on classroom instruments.
by using the Silver Burdett Ginn Curriculum and some percussion instruments and the kids did learn about beat and rhythm.

Now Room 12,13 and 16 have a real music teacher and I just just teaching one music class room 17. We just finished learning about the percussion families, rhythm and beat. For room 17 , we will now spend a few weeks learning about the string family.
