November 2011 Lessons

Grade 5
We learned how to write a friendly letter and practiced using gmail accounts to send email to our teachers. We continued to review internet safety skills.

Grade 4
We continued to review the Fiction section by having students go to the shelves and find books by various authors and then put the books in alphabetical order by authors last name. We also read the book Alpha Betti by Carlene
Morton. As we read the book we alphabetized different things that Betti had to put in order such as items in her closet, kitchen, bedroom. We also viewed the video the Fiction Puzzle and discussed the different genre realistic, classic, Newbery Award Winner, Adventure, Mystery historical, and science fiction

Grade 3
We continued to work on Using Atlases. We also learned about Arctic animals. American Indians, Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery. We reviewed parts of a book.
Grade 2
We learned about the 300 section by exploring the holidays Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Day of the Dead. We also learned about Money and jobs, which are also part of the 300 section. We also touched on the 900 section by learning about Sacajewa, Lewis and Clark, and the Corps of Discovery.
Grade 1
We learned about the 500 science section as we explored the Lifecycles of Butterflies (Insects) and Frogs (Amphibians). For American Indian Month we read The story of Jumping Mouse, How Raven stole the sun, and The Rainbow Crow. We also learned about Migration and other animal kingdom family members including reptiles, fish, and Mammals.
Grade K
We learned about Trains by reading the following books: The little Engine that could, Freight Train, Dinotrain,and the Little Red Caboose. We sung train songs and learned the parts of a train: Engine, boxcar, and caboose.
